#inspirational post about self esteem in today's society. Pin now, read later! | Mommie and Wee

Today, I took a trip to Walmart. I needed to get some spray paint for a DIY project. I’ll be sharing the juicy details with you later this week. But as I was walking out, clothed in a t shirt and Soffe shorts, I looked down and it hit me…

Thankful Thursday | Mommie and Wee
no problem

Like really though! Feeling good about yourself is something that a lot of females struggle with. But even after having my twins, I never was really as weight conscious as a lot of people can be. I’m my biggest cheerleader, I think.
Now don’t get me wrong, I still feel the need to get down to my pre-pregnancy weight! I’m 20 pounds over. But I’m not stressing because I don’t have a thigh gap anymore. I’m happy in my skin.
so sexy
Oh, what’s a thigh gap?
I know right. *Biggest eye roll known to man.* It’s exactly what is sounds like. A gap. Between your thighs. And people FREAK over it.
I don’t see why people go crazy over having or not having this thing. THIS post even talks about why every girl should have one!
Okay, okay! I admit! That post is a sarcastic rant BUT I just had to share it with you!
But really, after I found THIS post, I made the decision to love me. All of me! Since then, I have become so incredibly embracing of my stretch marks and bodily flaws – Gods idea of a beauty marks! It’s pretty refreshing!
The way I see it, I’m a black girl without a booty. Thicker thighs are Gods way of helpin’ a sistah out! ;) I may not have much junk in my trunk, but I sure do have air in my tires!

“So then, banish anxiety from your heart and cast off the troubles of your body, for youth and vigor are meaningless.”
Ecclesiastes 11:10

Simply put, I’m thankful for the vessel that He created for me to live in on this earth. For its beauty and strength, resilience, flaws, marks, scratches. Even for it’s lack of gapage between my thighs!
Yes, I said gapage!
So, what are you thankful for this week? I’d love for y’all to join in on #ThankfulThursdays! It’s so liberating to share my thanks with the world!

Chels!!! It’s me again!!! Thanks for the kind words. Apologies for stalking your blog……..but I live for your Thankful Thursdays! As a matter fact I had a health fair today which means I arrived to the office late. The first thing I did when I logged on to my computer was check my e-mail for my paying job just because it’s the right thing to do…then I opened a new tab and typed in!!!! Yay me!!! Anywho……I don’t really get the fascination with the “gapage”…I don’t have one and I’m o.k. with that!

Here’s my contribution to Thankful Thursday….A couple of years ago I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Embolism and was having to take blood thinners which I HATED because of the many side effects….so I took myself off of them after about 3 months. Well a few months ago I had to start taking them again because the clots had reoccurred and I HATED it!! I woke up everyday with a horrible headache and nausea…I just didn’t feel like myself. So I went into some serious prayer pleading with God to please heal me from this illness because I just want to feel like myself again. I called my doctor, he scheduled a CT, a doppler and a heart ecko ………..went back to the doctor Tuesday for my results and the clots are gone…….not one anywhere…not in my legs…no in my lungs and my heart is healthy!! I literally shouted in the dr’s office. My God!!! Won’t He do it??? So I’m thankful for not having to take Xarelto and for feeling like myself again!!! Yay me!! And I’m thankful for Thankful Thursdays!!

Thanks for linking my post on The So Called Perfect Body. This is a great post you wrote. We may not be exactly where we want to be as far as weight wise (I could loose 20 lbs myself), but we still need to be happy the way we are now. If you dress yourself like you’re not happy about the way you look, it’s going to show. Show off what you have now and no one will notice that extra 20 lbs you want to loose.

Chelsea, I couldn’t agree with you more. I was just thinking today, “Why does size even matter?” When we love who we are, it doesn’t matter what shape, size, or thigh gap we have. I have known some pretty skinny people that are very unhappy with who they are. It isn’t really about the size, it is about the heart. When you believe in yourself, you are beautiful. Thank you for the reminder!

Have you heard of the “Bikini Bridge”? Ridiculous. Everyone is built differently and there is no manual saying “This is pretty” and “This is how you should look.” The media has our young girls killing themselves to be “perfect”, and hating themselves when they don’t measure up. Love this post. Love your attitude!

It IS ridiculous! I’m so over the media, and their promotion of stick-skinny idols. That’s just not me. I’m so happy you enjoyed my post though, girl! Thanks for stopping by! xChels

I’m soooo with you. Though I’m not that much overweight (I would love to lose 4 or 5 pounds, but I don’t think it’s going to happen any time soon), I don’t think I’ve ever had a thigh gap. I just don’t have the body structure for one, I guess. But we all are what we are and beautiful in our own way!

I couldn’t agree more! I’ve never had a thigh gap either (and I’m not overweight). I think it’s just ridiculous! Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes! xChels

Good for you being your own best friend, especially when it comes to body image! This is such a tough topic for women, but I think especially those of us that are mothers. This whole ‘thigh gap’ business is really kind of disgusting and I’m not sure there’s really a need for a ‘thigh gap’. I may have had one, some years ago, but it’s not there anymore. Now, full on rubbing and rawness aren’t really my thing, but if it happens because my body’s a bit different after Baby Boy, so be it! :)

You’re right, it definitely is more challenging to have a positive body image as a mother. But, equally more important! Thanks so much for stopping by! xChels

Thanks so much for posting this and linking up with us on Turn It Up Tuesday! I am one of the guest hosts this month and thoroughly enjoyed reading this. I just posted something similar a few weeks ago. It’s so hard to stay positive when all you ever see on TV, and even amongst some friends and family, is look how great people look immediately after having a baby. “Thigh Gap” didn’t exist years ago, and it’s ridiculous that it exists now. I never had a thigh gap, even at my thinnest 120 lbs…I have what my mom likes to call Thunder Thighs. We all just need to learn to embrace and love how we look! I look forward to reading more from you.

You’re so right! I just wish that more people could be as positive as you about their body image. So glad you found me at the linkup, and I look forward to seeing you around here more often! ;) xChels
