WHITE CHOCOLATE COVERED PEPPERMINT STRAWS

I’m not gonna lie, one of my favorite parts of Christmas is peppermints. But, I have a love/hate relationship with the white and red swirls.
 
I love seeing peppermint at the grocery store or even on a Christmas tree, just because of what it represents! — Christmas is around the corner! — But really, I hate the taste of peppermint. Eek! I can eat a candy cane, but don’t ask me if I want a peppermint shake or a peppermint whats-it-called from Starbucks.
 
Blek! No thank you, hunnie!
 
It’s kind of weird that I’m writing about peppermint straws today huh?
 
Well, I had some candy canes (I told you I loved seeing them at the store!!) and I needed peppermint ‘sticks’, so I figured I’d do something with the extra pieces. Hopefully you can put it to good use!
 
I chopped off the tops of my candy canes… the little hookie part, and threw them in my Ninja food processor. (my favorite kitchen gadget I promise. Thanks hubbz.)

And *sigh* look at these ridiculously cute Santa straws that I found on the clearance aisle in Target! How could I not get them?!

I know peppermint and chocolate always pair well together, so I melted some white chocolate, dipped my straws and dusted them with the crushed peppermint. So super easy! Lay them out to dry on parchment paper. <– that way they won’t stick!
 
That’s it! Finito!
 
Did I not tell you this is probably the world’s easiest DIY?

Perfect to add to hot chocolate, milk, or even coffee! (If you like that sorta thing.) These are actually going to be perfect for the holiday gift idea I have rolling around in my brain. But, I’ll share more about that later!

LOOKIE WHAT I GOT IN THE MAIL + A WEEKNIGHT MEAL

I just love the weekends. Needless to say, I dislike Mondays. A lot. But, that’s a whole other post. This weekend was no different than usual, becausseeee I got some goodies in the mail!!
 
Don’t you just love getting surprises delivered to your door?!
 
Butttttt, this wasn’t really a surprise. I ordered this cookware set from QVC <— my home shopping addiction. And I’m completely obsessed.
 
This 24 piece oven-to-table cookware set by Temp-tations is perfect. Like really!! It comes with 2 mixing bowls, 2 ramekins, 4 measuring spoons, 1 square baker, 2 rectangular bakers, and a pie pan. Everything you need to have in your kitchen.
 
And every piece comes with a plastic lid and the bakers come with a carrying caddy so it should really be called the oven-to-table-to-fridge-and-beyond set!! Plus, the ceramic material makes every pience non-stick. None of the gunk from baking sprays or added calories from flouring your pie pans! Perfection.
 
And don’t you just lovvvveeee the ‘scream-for-fall’ ‘ready-for-harvest’ yellow color with the autumn leave (Floral Lace) pattern. Exactly what I need for my Thanksgiving dinner table!!! (By the way, I’m not getting paid for this post. All 100% organic opinions here, people.
 
I promise you, Tara thought about everything when she came up with these.
 
I was so excited to get them, I just couldn’t resist. I HAD to use these bad boys right then and there. Thanksgiving is too far away to wait!! Exactly 17 days, but hey… who’s counting, right?

WHATCHA NEED:
x Temp-tations awesomely amazing bakeware (but any old 8×8 pan will do, I guess)
x 1/2 yellow (or white) onion
x Leftover pot roast (or any meat really)
x a bag of frozen (but thawed) veggies
x 2 cans of creamy soup (I used 1 C.O. Mush and 1 C.O. Onion, but use whatever you have)
x a splash of cream, salt & peppa!!
x pie crust (store-bought makes this a super quickie!!)
 
WHATCHA DO:
x Caramelize your onions. Here’s a how-to.
x Add your roast. Break up the big pieces.
x Throw in the veggies, soup, cream and stir!!
x Season to taste.
x Top with crust. Don’t forget to leave a steam hole.
x Bake at 425 degrees F until golden.
 
That’s it. Easy as pie… pot pie!!

FALL ENTERTAINING | APPLE CIDER THREE WAYS

I have to admit something.
 
I absolutely HATE cold chilly any less-than-warm weather. Like really?! Cloudy, rainy, chilly, snowy weather is not my thing.
 
Now you know why I’m obsessed with tea. Chai tea to be exact.
 
Even though tea is my absolute fav thing to warm my soul, I do love a good cup of apple cider. It’s the perf reminder of fall and the holiday season that is quickly approaching!
 
Because, we all know, October went by way too quickly!
 
This year, I think my friends and I are going to get together and have a dinner a couple days before Thanksgiving. And if that’s the case, I’m going to be on kitchen duty. I’m always on kitchen duty.
 
What better thing to make to start a party than apple cider, three ways. So holiday-esque.

And it’s super simple to make. All you need is…
 
x 3 cups apple cider (more or less)
x 1 orange
x some cloves. whole cloves.
x 2 cinnamon sticks
x an oven, a pot, and your hands, my friend.
 
Take the cloves, and stick them in the peel of the orange until it looks like a weird polka dotted orange ball. Throw that in a pan with your cider and cinnamon sticks and let that sucker simmer. I usually let it go for like an hour, or whenever I decide I want to come back to it.
 
SIDENOTE: this makes for an amazingly delicious home fragrance. Just saying.
 
Now, about this whole ‘three-way’ thing…

If you want your cider hot, pour it in a super cute mug (I just love this glass mug I snagged from Tarje!!) and call it a day.

Cold apple cider isn’t any harder, I promise. You’ll just have to wait a little bit, hunn.
 
Pour your cider into a pitcher and put it on ice. Allow it to cool down a bit, then stick it in the fridge. Or freezer, depending on how thirsty you are.
 
When the cider is done, pair it with a pretty straw to jazz things up a bit.
 
And now for the star of the party!!

Yassss!! Okay, so when I make a big pitcher of this stuff, I add 1 Redd’s Apple Ale for every 1.5 cups of cider. (You don’t have to be as heavy handed as me of course, but hey, it’s Friday!!)
 
Adding some Southern Comfort doesn’t hurt either.
 
Stir that all up, pour it into a glass and top it with a splash of simple syrup to even things out. (I bought some at the store, but you can definitely make it on the stove with sugar and water.)
 
For entertaining, I always sex my drink up with frozen apple slices (as my ice! I know right, sooo fetch!) and line the rim with gold glitter sprinkles. We all know I’m the gold glitter queen.
 
Add a cinammon stick for stirring and a sprinkle of cinnamon for color and you’ve got one heck of a party drink!
 
You can’t go wrong with apples and caramel dip on the side, either. My fav fall snack.

And with my Friday celebration, I thought I’d get the weekend started off right — with my own little fiesta!
 
Tex-mex is a staple in my home. I love, love, LOVE ‘Texican’ food. I think I cook tacos, or something similar, pretty much once a week. Like THESE enchiladas. Literally, mouth-watering.
 
But, back to today’s post, these Mango Habanero Shrimp Tacos are like the bomb…. No. TheBomb[dot]Com. I randomly came up with this recipe on the fly, and I’m beyond happy I did.
 
Definitely gonna be making these again. Like every week. So. Freaking. Good.
